What is that Steam or Greenlight?

Steam is a biggest digital distribution platform for games and software. It has more than 125 million active users worldwide.

Greenlight is Steam’s system to enlist community’s help in picking new games to be released on Steam.

It’s simply a system where users of Steam choose their favorite projects. And Steam will choose games that will be greenlit/distributed, based on user votes, quality of project etc.

(Steam has simply always last word)

It looks like now it’s a time, when relatively small count of Yes votes is enough to get greenlit. (probably 1500+ votes means relative good chance).

Why to bother with Greenlight/Steam?

I think that it could be practically life changer for Virtual-O and for orienteering itself too. It’s a way how to get orienteering to masses.

This will give us a chance to introduce orienteering/navigation to whole world. (there is small chance that there are many people that wants to learn orienteering/navigation but don’t have conditions for it. Scouts, schools, adventure racers, hikers, small bear grylls…)

Of course nothing is guaranteed. Sometimes game will get into sales on Steam. And that game will get ridiculous big publicity, sometimes games are waiting for flash sale for long period of time.

Another important thing is, that Steam is a proved digital distribution platform. So instantly with Virtual-O distributed there, we get system for downloading, automatic updating of game. Licensing system, achievements model, taxes etc. Madly complex things would be solved instantly. And that give me more time for development of Virtual-O itself and better user experience for you.

So what should I do?

Vote please! Virtual-O needs your every vote.

We need to start chain reaction. Your vote may not be enough. We need to share it, tell your friends, tell your kids to vote. Tell it everyone who you think will vote for Virtual-O.

It’s important to spread a word about it in your country, sport, community etc. Every action could be that crucial one step to get enough votes.

Note that you must be registered steam user to have ability to vote (and you must have spent 5$ on Steam before. They are protecting from spam with this) I’m pretty sure that not many orienteers will be registered on Steam, but there is still chance that your kids will be etc.
